Western Cyprus Situated on the southern coast, Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus and has developed as a spirited, cosmopolitan and bustling seaside resort. Backed by the majestic Troodos Mountains, Limassol consists of three main areas with all having access to the sandy/pebbly beaches with numerous water sports. For those seeking a lively and varied night life with its wide range of tavernas, restaurants, bars, discos and nightclubs Limassol is the ideal choice. As well as the nightlife and beaches, Limassol boasts other more cultural places of interest in and around the city. The magnificent setting of the ancient Curium Theatre, Kolossi Mediaeval Castle and Limassol Castle which houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum are just a few examples. The Cyprus wine-making industry is centred in Limassol and plays host to the Wine Festival as well as other festive carnivals throughout the year. Pissouri is a quiet resort, situated midway between Paphos and Limassol, making it the ideal location for those who wish to escape the crowds. This south-facing village, set high up on the hillside about 1,000ft above the sea, commands the most magnificent view of some 20 miles of Mediterranean coastline. Surrounded by vineyards and beautiful scenery the resort offers a small selection of tavernas serving excellent local cuisine. The resorts of Limassol and Paphos are approximately a thirty-five minute drive away, offering more nightlife, shops and activities. And for those who like a round or two of golf, the Secret Valley Golf Club is just a short drive away. Watersports are available from the jetty. A friendly and laid back atmosphere with Cypriot charm, steeped in history. Paphos is situated on the south west coast of the island and was, in ancient times, the capital of Cyprus. There are many sandy and pebbly beaches within Paphos although the best sandy beach in the area is Coral Bay, only a short drive away. Divided into two main areas, the old town being the main shopping area whilst the tourist area situated by the sea hosts numerous tavernas, restaurants bars and shops. The resorts focal point is the charming fishing harbour by Paphos Fort, lined with open air tavernas that serve a tempting menu of the days catch. Paphos has many historical points of interest including the district museum, the Tomb of the Kings, the Pillar of St. Paul, the mosaics of Paphos and many other famous archaeological sites. A short drive away is the legendary site where Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, is said to have been born from the waves. Interested
