Name La Francesca Village-
A green oasis on the sea of the Cinque
Terre Cinque Terre National Park, Northern Italy

ID Ref: 830

on picture for larger view E-mail The Village is situated in a protected area
(15 hectars rich in trees and flowers typical of the mediterranean
regions) close to the National Park of the Cinque Terre. The microclimatic features of La Francesca
are due to its favourable position facing south and protected from
the North winds. Medium temperatures, in fact, during the coldest
months seldom fall below 10° and weather is dry and sunny for most
of the year and windy in Summer. Rains, sometimes violent, sharpen
underwood’s perfumes, while in Winter citrus fruits grow ripe and
roses come out with no risk of frosts. Tourists, who nowadays are more and more
desirous to find unspoilt places, find in La Francesca the ideal
place for a stay in all seasons. There, they can go through old
tracks and discover landscapes, scents and natural flavours. La Francesca is situated in a bay facing
the sea of the Cinque Terre with three beautiful gulfs, between
Punta del Carlino and Punta Gone. The wild and charming landscape
presents geologic charateristics and remarkable rocky beds. It offers
the possibility to enjoy a sea holiday far from noise and crowds,
in a bay with crystal-clear water, surrounded by gillyflowers and
fennel. In the small coves among the rocks it is
nice to swim into the depths, characterized by rares species and
meadows of Posidonia, or sunbathe under the gazebo. For children
there is a special swimming pool near the sea. The private beach, located in a small bay
among rocks, can be reached on foot in a few minutes. On the belvedere:
shower, seawater children's pool, bathing huts, solarium with sun-beds. Walking through the shaded footpaths of the
Village, from the belvedere to the orchard, from the restaurant
down to the sea, one feels part of a protected natural landscape.
Most of the plants are autochthonous, but
all have features that help to understand the environment. They
grow in a particularly mild climate in Winter, but an unfavourable
one in Summer, when heat and dry weather concur to create difficult
conditions. Evergreens predominate, both in the forest vegetation
as well as in the characteristic Mediterranean maquis. They can
be found on the rocks close to the sea or in the underbrush of the
pinewoods. This delicate environment can be damaged
by human actions: fire is the recurrent element which opposes vegetation’s
development and growth. The natural habitat offers us many pleasant
sensations and this is why it is so important to respect and preserve
it. For those who want to know this territory,
La Francesca often organizes botanical excursions, while fauna route
helps adults and children to spot mammals, birds and fish. The 55 houses and apartments - all overlooking
the sea - are surrounded by a marvellous park and are the ideal
place for a holiday immersed in nature and far from constraint.
All the houses are in solid brickwork, simply furnished but completely
equipped with kitchenette, bathroom with shower, hair-dryer, central
heating, telephone, safe, TV/SAT connection and a private terrace.
Sport and swimming-pool - La Francesca
is a self-sufficient settlement, where you can spend your time with
no hurry or constraint. For sports and relaxing there is a rich
choice: indoor gym, 2 tennis courts, football and volley-ball fields,
bowling, minigolf, table tennis, training. All these activities
can be performed all year round. The swimming-pool (25x10 metres),
situated among pine-trees and oleanders, is open from June to September:
sun-beds, whirlbath and aquagym courses are available during the
Summer. For kids - We take special care of
children: a large play area allows also the smallest ones to move
around in complete safety. During Summer and school holidays various
activities are organized by experienced nurses for kids. On request,
naturalistic trips for school. Bar and restaurant - The new restaurant
"Rosadimare" (Searose), situated on the extreme cliff of a promontory
overhanging the sea, is surrounded on three sides by a two-level
terrace, 350 sq. m large. You can enjoy from it breathtaking beautiful
landscapes on the Sea Park of Punta Mesco. It is nice to sit down
at a table of the spacious and comfortable dining-room in the evening,
and taste the local and Mediterranean specialties, as well as the
best international dishes. You can choose among a quick menu (for
the youngest guests there is also a children menu), takeaway or
a special menu Gourmet (à la carte), for a candle-light dinner at
sunset. Later, you can enjoy music at the contiguous bar, where
you can meet friends for a coffee or a drink. The small bar next
to the playground is, in Summer, the meeting-place for children
and young, who can take part there in the evening activities - always
discreet - with the animators. Also the feasts, the concerts and
the open-air entertainments are a good opportunity to visit surroundings
at nightfall. Minimarket - If you feel like cooking
at home, you can find provisions at the minimarket: fresh milk,
Ligurian focaccia, vegetables and cheese, all of local production. Private route and parking - The private
route, that from the entrance gate slopes down to the sea, offers
beautiful views, but numerous are the footpaths taking to enchanting
corners. You can leave your car in a secure parking area and get
anywhere on foot. This is good for adults, but mostly for children,
who will be able to move around in complete safety. Type A 2 + 1 - (25 sq.m) 7 houses located
in the upper side of the Village. They face westwards on mimosas
wood – a large, shady and flat area - and eastwards on the Gulf
of Levanto. Underbungalows (30 sq.m): they are situated in the
centre of the Village, at the lower floor of two-level houses.
From the large terrace glances range from the coast to the sea. Type B 2 + 2 - located around the play
area and along the route to the sea. Most of them are one family-houses
(40 sq.m) which offer privacy and comfort. There are also 4 apartments
(35 sq.m each) in a building located in the lower side of the
Village – the closest to the sea. They share a patio, while terraces
overlook the sea. Guests have at their disposal a large solarium
on the roof. Type C 4 + 2 - (50 sq.m): situated in the
centre of the Village, they are mostly one family-houses, some
with a fireplace. The two bedrooms, the spacious living-room and
the terrace make them very comfortable. Type D 6 + 2 - (60 sq.m) located on the
left side of the route, beyond tennis-courts. They have three
bedrooms, a fireplace and a wide terrace. The ideal house for
groups. Between Portovenere and Levanto, along a
15 kms area, lies the enchanting scenery of the Cinque Terre. The
sound of the sea waves dashing against the rocks and the intense
perfumes of myrtle, oleanders, lemons, pines and mediterranean maquis
make this area one of the most suggestive of Italy. The 5 villages hold art treasures and offer
a natural and tasty cuisine and famous wines. In 1999 this 4,200
hectars territory, inhabited by five thousand people, has been included
in the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre (National Park of the
Cinque Terre). Come here by train and walk up and down the footpaths
along the dry walls, and enjoy the enchanting panoramas over the
blue sea. The paths of the Cinque Terre and of Liguria’s
Eastern Riviera – about twenty – represent for nature lovers an
interesting way to know and appreciate our territory. Levanto-Punta Mesco-Monterosso- (estimated
time required: 3 hours, altitude 314 m). Start from the medieval Loggia del Comune
and follow the ancient walls. After crossing a small bridge, go
uphill to Punta Mesco. Just beyond the restaurant “La Giada” turn
right into a pathway and through vineyards and olive-groves go up
to the Mesco headland. From the top you will have an enchanting
view of the Cinque Terre. Take the steep path nearby the ruins of
the Oratorio di Sant’Antonio and walk downhill to Monterosso. Distances Eastwards: Genova, 65 kms. An important Mediterranean
port as well as a rich artistic city, with historical buildings,
gardens and parks. After a phase of decline, the medieval centre
- one of the largest in Europe – is now being restored. The art
shows of Palazzo Ducale, the Aquarium, the Children Town by the
old port, and important exhibitions such as “Euroflora” have created
new outlets for tourism. Portofino, 40 kms. The houses on
the seafront and the small port - one of the favourite landing places
of the international jet set – are the starting-point of a series
of narrow streets through the old village. Behind, among the hill’s
pinetrees and holm oaks, the old villas testify an élite tourism
born at the beginning of ‘900. Westwards: National Park of the Cinque Terre, 8 kms.
The 5 small villages, dominated by sloping terraces and almost hanging
between sky and sea, make up one of the most suggestive scenery
of Ligurian coastline. All of them are worth a visit. A frequent
train service connects the 5 centres in only a few minutes from
Levanto or Bonassola. But it is also possible to get there on foot:
the views of the sea and the coast deserve a little effort. La Spezia, 25 kms. Marine lovers
can visit the Arsenal, the largest one in Italy, while ancient and
modern art is well represented in Amedeo Lia Museum. Beautiful excursions
in the surroundings are made possible by the numerous boats that
sail across the gulf daily. Portovenere, 35 kms. The ancient Portus
Veneris is situated in a marvellous position at the extreme point
of the coast defining the gulf of La Spezia. Built as a fortified
town by the Genoese in 1200, it has beautiful old churches and gothic
monuments. Lucca, 90 kms. On the first slopes
of the Apennines is the old town, rich in monuments and surrounded
by fortified walls, almost intact. Town-planning layout is one of
the best example of Renaissance architecture. Pisa, 100 kms. One of the most well-known
art centre in the world. The Campo dei Miracoli, the Cathedral,
the Baptistry and the Tower are surely the most impressive monuments
of romanesque art. Firenze, 170 kms. Cradle of the Renaissance
and art centre par excellence, it offers visitors buildings, monuments,
churches of inestimable value, and art treasures preserved in its
numerous museums. It is also an appreciated centre for a prime shopping.
