Tuscany Contact & Enquiries Bill and Diana Kilpatrick, owners of La Foce,
are available for bookings and any help that is needed. E-mail Telephone Office 0039 0578 26 80 16 Area Sarteano is rapidly becoming one of the most
desirable locations in Southern Tuscany. It is not difficult to
understand why Sarteano has become so popular; the Autostrada is
within 6 kms., Rome 1.5 hours., Florence and Siena both just 1 hour
and the mainline railway station in Chiusi, just 15 minutes drive,
has excellent services. All the magnificent medieval fortress hill
towns fan out around the town; Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico
d'Orcia, Montalcino, Radicofani and Città della Pieve are all within
a radius of 45 mins. Lake Chiusi, 15 minutes by car, offers the
opportunity for sailing while Lake Trasimeno, just half an hour
by car offers a vast range of nautical sports as well as swimming.
For the discerning traveller who wishes to enjoy a vacation in which
a balance of relaxation, artistic and cultural activities, outdoor
sports and an exploration of superb local Tuscan cuisine can be
achieved, Tuscany is the perfect solution. In addition there are
horse riding and fishing facilities close at hand and one can hire
bicycles locally. Within the spectacular countryside lies the market
town Sarteano, itself is a thriving little agricultural town with
an enchanting medieval section topped by the Castle and fortress
walls. Sarteano also contains a large park with
3 open-air swimming pools filled with curative spa water which provide
excellent facilities for families. The largest pool has a pretty
cascade that feeds in the water and has ample space for sunbathing.
There is both a Bar and Restaurant within the complex. There are
numerous excellent restaurants both in Sarteano and in the neighbouring
area. Activities During the summer months there are so many
festivals that we are spoilt for choice, notably are the following;
Music: Terra di Siena Chamber music, world class music set in breathtaking
locations. Organised by Iris Origo's daughters, (War in the Val
d'Orcia, The Merchant of Prato etc.). Umbria Jazz Montepulciano
music festival, The Palio in Siena and The Giostra del Saracino
in Sarteano (Sarteano's answer to the Palio). Frankly just as spectacular,
much safer for the horses as it is a joust rather than a race and
not to be missed if you are here for 15th. August.
A series of connected festivals are spread
out from the last week in July for about a month. Walking, Nautical
Sports - Lake Trasimeno, Lake Chiusi swimming, Thermal pool in Sarteano,
Bicycling, Fishing, Riding: various local riding schools, some also
arrange treks. Tennis in Pool park in Sarteano. Accommodation Ensconced in a hillside just on the outskirts
of the village of Sarteano, Portoncello boasts the most amazing
180 degree panoramic view across the hills, valleys, lakes to the
distant Apennines. The property has just over one hectare of
ancient stone walled terraced land planted with olive, fruit and
nut trees as well as over 80 mature cypresses. Thus the setting
provides ample opportunity to find a quiet terrace upon which to
settle into one of the hammocks provided and dreamily soak up the
vista with its distant activity of, for example, a local farmer
tending his olives or vineyard and the ever changing play of light
across the hills. This is a haven for those who want to be
within an easy stroll of village life with all its amenities including
a weekly market while also appearing to be totally secluded and
rural. Accommodation consists of: The dining room is located off to the side
of the first living room and the long rustic-style table can seat

combined gas and electric stove and oven. There is ample work and

to Bedroom 1 with two single beds and large wardrobe, sleeping 2.
