Accommodation: Comfortable, modern, spacious, lakeside home in the Alps with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a WC; accommodates seven people. The house is within walking distance of shops (5-10 minutes), restaurants (1-10 minutes), train station (under 15 minutes), and cablecar to Lungern/Schoenbuel (2,000 m) for skiing or mountaintop hiking (less than 5 minutes--you can walk in your ski boots). The house has a large living/dining area with fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen (with microwave), fenced yard, balcony, patio with barbecue, direct lake access, two-car garage, playroom for kids (football), washer and dryer. Nice for fishing; small motorboat (extra charge) is optional. Hiking paths go from the house or from the cablecar, waterfall is about 10 minutes. Tennis, mini-golf, and public swimming area with water slide and baby pool are 5-10 minutes' walk; bike rental in town, wind-surfer rental at nearby campground. Swimming in the lake is lovely in July-August; the brave and/or warm-blooded can do it from June to late September. The house is on a quiet street with little traffic. It has cable TV, small CD player, VCR, and videocassettes and kids' books (many in English). Rate includes tourist tax, cleaning fee, linens, firewood....in short, the only extra charges are long-distance phone calls and (optionally) the boat. Children are welcome, but pets are not.     Distances: Located very near the "mittelpunkt" of Switzerland, Lungern is a great jumping-off point for day trips. Lucerne and Interlaken are each a little over half an hour by car, about an hour by train; Meiringen area (Hasliberg skiing, Ballenberg outdoor museum, Lake Brienz, Aareschluct...) is about 20 minutes' drive. Grimsel, Susten, and Furqua passes, Jungfrau, Titlis, and Grindelwald are all comfortable day trips.   Pricing information: Rates are from US $900 to $1100 £620 to £760 per week
