The Costa del Sol … or the sunshine coast as it literally translates … has long been one of the most desirable places on which to own property. Running down from the provincial capital, Malaga, to the rock of Gibraltar, many, many millions of pounds have been spent over the last forty or so years developing this particular coastline.
Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, it became a popular choice with the elite and famous who almost exclusively enjoyed the privileges afforded to them but today you’ll find open to a much wider audience … the semi-retired, the businessman, the investor and couples and families looking to sample all the region has to offer.
Thanks to its fabulous climate, you have all year round golf … numerous world class courses including the Valderrama where the Ryder Cup was held in 1998 … sailing and a host of other water sports; first class restaurants serving freshly caught fish and locally grown produce, local fiestas and ferias.
In fact, there’s much to do and see … and there’s something for everyone.
The Costa del Sol is serviced by two international airports … the most popular being Malaga to the east with numerous flights daily, the other Gibraltar, a good alternative for those wanting the western side.
By rail, there are a number of different options but the most direct would appear to be from London to Malaga via Paris and Madrid.
In addition, regular coach services run from London Victoria to Marbella via Bailen. There is a choice of motorway or coast road spanning the length of the Costa del Sol, both of which have seen vast improvement over the last decade.
